Ring and Ride

What is it?

A wheelchair accessible minibus taking people from their homes for shopping and other trips.

How is it provided?

By a minibus. The driver will help people on and off the bus and help with shopping. Volunteers are also available request to accompany you and help with wheelchairs. We also have our own (manual) wheelchair which can be loaded onto the bus for your use at the destination - if you need it, please reserve it when you make your booking.

The service is provided by HCT with the support of the Big Lottery & Devon CC.

Who can use it?

Those who have no access to transport of their own, and difficulty accessing public transport. This applies both to households completely lacking access to transport and in other cases as well - e.g. in a young family where there is only one car and one parent goes out to work, the other parent and child/ren would be eligible.

Where?

From your home to local towns, for shopping or appointments. Other trips during holidays.

When?

According to a published schedule. There is one trip each weekday from two or three Zones in our area to a town - a different destination each day.

How much?

Varies with destination: £3.00 upwards.

Volunteer Car

What is it?

A taxi-like service, used when no other transport arrangement can be made.

How is it provided?

By volunteer drivers who use their own transport. They pick up the client from their home, take them to their appointment and bring them back home.

Who can use it?

Those who have no access to transport of their own, and difficulty accessing public transport. Further if a person is temporarily unable to drive, perhaps for medical reasons, they would also be eligible to use the service

Where?

From the passenger's home, to pre-booked destinations, e.g. to attend medical appointments.

When?

As required.

How much?

There is a small charge of 40p per mile to cover the volunteers' cost of fuel.
